Meet Larry, a devoted train engineer who dedicated 55 years of his life to driving trains for L&N. Seeking to honor his incredible career and passion for his life’s work, Larry turned to our Journey Sculptures. We worked closely with him, meticulously incorporating significant artifacts and symbols from his train-driving journey into a magnificent sculpture. The sculpture became a stunning visual representation of Larry’s accomplishments, showcasing his unwavering dedication and love for the railway industry. Displayed proudly in his home, the sculpture serves as a constant reminder of his remarkable journey, preserving the memories and the pride he feels for his 55 years of service.

The Process:
Creating a journey sculpture for the Train Engineer was a meticulous and heartfelt endeavor. We embarked on a journey of gathering sentimental objects that represented their 70-year career as a train engineer. These objects included train-related memorabilia, vintage photographs, and personal mementos. Through careful selection and artistic expertise, we transformed these items into a stunning sculpture that encapsulated their life’s work.

We started with his collection of pins.  He received a new pin for each five years he worked at the company.   He had a box of these in his dresser.  We added the tie clips and other pins he had collected over the 55 years he worked.

The Inspiration:
The Train Engineer’s passion for trains served as the guiding inspiration for their journey sculpture. We wanted to capture the essence of their remarkable career and the impact it had on their life. The sculpture incorporates elements like miniature train models, railroad artifacts, and symbolic imagery that represent the joy and dedication they experienced while driving trains for L&N. Every detail was thoughtfully considered to pay homage to their incredible journey.

Larry asked if a tunnel could be added to his journey sculpture.  He passed through this tunnel every mission.

Here you see his procedures book and an old rail road tie.  The watch was given to him when he first started his career.  The watch turned out to be the wrong type of watch to use on the job.  It had the wrong type of number face, So this gift was never used.  It now has a place of honor on the sculpture.
